Meet Mark Patterson AKA Roy Harper
May. 20th, 2016 09:38 pmThis is Roy Harper AKA Speedy AKA Arsenal AKA Red Arrow
Roy was orphaned at a young age, then unofficially adopted by a Native American man. When the Green Arrow needed help, a young Roy tagged along. He helped save the day and Ollie decided to take him in. Roy became Speedy--sidekick and Teen Titan. Ollie was a terrible parental figure and Roy grew up half-wild, acting out to gain attention...which landed him on the street and addicted.
He got cleaned up thanks to the Black Canary. He also ended up a single dad thanks to very poor taste in women. Little Lian was the light of his life, however, and Roy actually began to mature as he aged, determined to make his daughter's life a happy one.
Now he's Mark Patterson
Mark had a tough life. He grew up in a blue collar family with a father who sometimes liked to talk with his fists when he drank too much. He lit out when Mark was around 11, and Mark started working odd jobs to try to help his mother pay the bills. He was a good kid, if a little wild, getting in trouble constantly (including dealing for a short time.) He went so wild, in fact, that he was sent to a program to "scare him straight". It worked, mostly because there he met a mentor figure who took him in hand and showed him real understanding.
He also met Eva at the program. Eva was wild and beautiful and smart, and she and Matt were inseparable. They managed to claw their way out of the hole they'd dug for themselves, and everything was looking good. Matt got a job with the PD once he was old enough. Eva danced, but on her own terms, and sometimes picked up gigs at a diner. They settled into a decent place, got married at a stupidly young age, and had a baby.
Then Eva up and left.
At first, Mark refused to believe she'd abandoned him and Lian. He reported her missing, and when his fellow cops wouldn't help, he used resources to hunt for her. He found her all right--with her new boyfriend, a rich Hamptonian who could give her everything she'd ever wanted. Mark was heartbroken, and furious, but he returned home to Lian determined to do right by her. He's too busy to make many friends or go out much, but he's close to members of the force and a neighbor who acts as nanny for Lian.
He's a member of NYPD and 26 years old.
